What makes you tick?

I’m a “love my work” sort of guy (probably to a fault) and have been lucky to be able to run my own companies and build them over the years. That also means I’ve made my share of mistakes and encountered innumerable problems and learned how to fix them – fast. This is particularly true in my chosen field of manufacturing, where the heartbeat comes from the factory floor and the customer is the boss, and we need to connect the two on-time with the highest quality products while working with diverse team members who are the real stars of the company.  Shift work challenges, sudden changes, and all that Murphy’s Law throws our way becomes part of what we routinely handle – fast.

Over the years I’ve been lucky to have gathered an incredible team of leaders which allowed me to not worry about the day to day. From a base of fundamental mutual trust we add value and perspective to each other as we run the company.  We can speak in shorthand directly and unfiltered, often finishing each other’s sentences. Decisions are usually already made, but if one is needed, we do it – fast. No committees.

Sole ownership allows me the luxury of creating a family-friendly culture with a history of long-term employment, excellent benefits and a special bond among our team members. It’s contagious. Not everyone fits and that’s OK as there is a natural self-selection that ensues. It has allowed us to treasure unique backgrounds and circumstances, and we have been recognized for our community involvement.

How did Endeavor 3D come about?

Five years ago, I sold my prior company with a tie-up lease of my Atlanta area factory. That operation was consolidated as the lease expired leaving me an extraordinary opportunity to hire back our key leadership team and employees and start a new company. We had been involved in cast elastomers for the likes of Disney, polymers, OEM equipment design and fabrication, and fine-particle cementitious products with factories in Los Angeles, Atlanta and the UK, with ISO certification. The growing industry of additive manufacturing was an immediate match. It was a fast and easy decision start Endeavor 3D and I’m lucky to be my own venture capitalist – no committees!

Describe your role at Endeavor 3D

As the Chief Technology Officer, I lead our Application and Process Engineering professionals as well as our Operations departments including Manufacturing, Quality, Purchasing, Customer Service, and Shipping. Engineering and operations leadership is my profession and passion. My most important responsibility is to enable our fantastic teams by giving them the vision and freedom to best serve our customers.

How long have you been doing it?

With more than 20 years working with our key executives, I have been with Endeavor 3D since its founding.  I have hired and developed a remarkable team of my prior employees, members from the additive industry and individuals bringing new skills and experience to complement our operation. This is a close-knit team, looking out for one another and our customers. We are comfortable digging into the details to find the problems and weaknesses so we can fix them and improve. With the constant introduction of new designs, equipment, materials, software and post-processing we are learning continuously in our fast paced ever changing industry.

Why do you love what you do?

Developing leaders, empowering people to solve problems, and watching team members flourish as they succeed are parts of my job that I find very rewarding. In addition to working with people, I love making stuff – lots of it. It is in my DNA. My passion as an engineer comes from an obsession with new technologies, overcoming complex challenges and fixing things whether at work or home doing woodworking, rebuilding cars, repairing the many things that my kids break or helping build and program robots.  Endeavor 3D gives me the opportunity to make a lot of things and figure out a lot of stuff with super people! This is really fun.

I believe that manufacturing is a critical component to our economy. At Endeavor, I get a great sense of accomplishment knowing that our local workers are using domestic raw materials and machinery to produce world class parts.

Describe your role at Endeavor 3D

I oversee the planning, development and execution of all marketing and branding initiatives for Endeavor 3D. My role includes driving sustainable growth, providing highly personalized customer experiences, and implementing advanced marketing innovation.

How long have you been doing it?

I’ve been in the creative and marketing field for over 28 years. I began as an art director in a New Orleans ad agency, then the CEO and I split off and co-founded one of the first interactive agencies in the US. There I learned interface design and web design and coding. I subsequently worked in a couple more interactive agencies, one of which was focused on internet banking and insurance sites. After eight years I transitioned to the client side and served as creative and marketing director for a leading building products manufacturer for 20 years.

Why do you love what you do?

There are two main reasons. As an artist, I love seeing the end result of good creative design within the marketing umbrella. All of the extensions of branding: literature, web design, trade show, advertising… they fuel and satisfy the innate creative in me. Secondly, I love the academic and technological aspects of marketing, and using those tools to train my team to engage customers across all channels. Empowering them is one of my biggest rewards.
